Improve Your Writing Skills

Effective writing skills whether in communication or in drafting some matter is an important tool for a student to get good grades and for a professional to work smartly in an organization. A student needs to write his exams, assignments, Project report, thesis etc. throughout his academic life. For a student the most important medium that is used to evaluate him is through all such methods. Knowing the concepts well and not being able express them in your writing won’t make you even an average student. Have you ever seen a good student with poor writing skills? Do nothing but improve your writing skills to stand better and better. And that can be done with consistent efforts. Today you may write below average. But if you keep on writing regular basis your hundredth page would make you an average and thousandth page an excellent write. Some tips to improve are:

  1. Set up your Weekly/daily basis writing targets. There could be hundreds of topics to write on; like festivals, hobbies, how to do, environment, history, current affairs, academic subjects etc.
  2. Keep a dictionary, thesaurus, writing pad, pen ready on your table.
  3. Get your write ups evaluated by tutors, seniors, colleagues and friends. Internet can be handy to check sentence structure, phrases, spellings etc.
  4. Keep going. Initially you would tend to stop after few write ups. But keep the momentum going and see the improvement yourself.

Likewise Organizations have to depend mostly on written communication either to maintain a link with the different entities within the organization or with the outside world. They obviously depend upon letters, circulars, notes and explanations, memorandums, reports, etc. Incidentally, they have to keep in mind that the receivers remain widely distributed among common people, working class and experts too. Obviously, in such a case the transmitter of written communication has to pay adequate attention to certain important factors, such as:

  1. Appropriate Words
  2. Clarity of ideas
  3. Inoffensive Language
  4. Lucid Style
  5. Coherent Presentation
