Creativity is an attitude, the ability to accept change and newness, a willingness to play with ideas and possibilities, a flexibility of outlook, the habit of enjoying the good, while looking for ways to improve it. Creativity is also a process. Creative people work hard to improve ideas and solutions, by making continuous and gradual alterations and refinements to their work. Creativity requires passion and commitment. People become creative when they feel motivated primarily by the interest, satisfaction, and challenge of the situation and not by external pressure; the passion and interest are a person’s internal desire to do something unique. And the sense of challenge is a drive to prove something you have not been able to do it so far.
Innovation is the tool of Entrepreneurship. In addition, both innovation and entrepreneurship demand creativity. Innovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are readily available to markets, governments, and society. Innovation differs from invention in that innovation refers to the use of better and, as a result, novel idea or method, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself. Innovation differs from improvement in that innovation refers to the notion of doing something different. Rather than doing the same thing better.
Creativity and Innovation in an Entrepreneurial Organization
Entrepreneurship is the innovatory process involved either in the creation of a new product or service which differs significantly from products or services offered by other suppliers in content or in the way its production is organized or in its marketing. The winning performance of the entrepreneur and the organization focuses on:
- Competing on quality, not prices
- Domination of a market niche
- Competing in an area of strength
- Having tight and operating controls
Thus entrepreneur and enterprises are continuously creative and innovative to remain relevant to the customers, which is the purpose of every business.
